The James Winship Jackson Award goes to Dale Robinson for his presentation on his second year Structural Engineering project.

Dale is studying part-time at the Teesside University. The prize was awarded at the Presidents Dinner, following the Council Meeting on 30 November.

The Alfred Clayton-Hill Award was not presented, due to insufficient candidates being put forward.

LHC TunnelFollowing repairs, the start button for the biggest scientific experiment in the history of mankind will be pressed. Using the energy required to power Geneva, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will investigate many of the mysteries of the smallest things in nature by recreating the conditions immediately after the Big Bang. It may also reveal secrets that the Universe has hidden since the early stages of its birth.
This was the subject of our 2009 Prestige Lecture, filling the main lecture theatre in the Stephenson Building of Teesside University on 21 October.


Dr Pete Edwards, an astro-physicist from Durham University amazed, enthused and entertained with his dynamic presentation to a schools audience in the afternoon, and institution an

This event was jointly organised by the CSI and the Cleveland Institution of Engineers www.cieng.org

At the Council Meeting on Monday 5 March 2007, it was proposed by Past President Mr JWJackcon, and approved by a majority of members, that the annual fee (currently £250) shall be waived the new financial year 2007/8, and as of now for new members. This shall be reviewed annually.

Prospective members, who should represent a society or institution promoting science or engineering in the Tees Valley area, should in the first instance contact an existing member of Council for sponsorship.

Prizes and Awards

Scholarships & Prizes

Bursaries to support selected science & engineering students of The University of Teesside.

Meeting Room Hire

Member organisations of the CSI enjoy free room hire at The University of Teesside for up to 10 meetings per year. This will be reviewed annually, based on cost and usage.

Educational Grants

Small grants towards projects to raise the profile of science in the local community are available on a part-funded basis, as budget permits.
